The Majurity Conversations 2023 brings social impact leaders together to explore ways to effectively communicate in a challenging and ever-evolving environment where resources are tight, and stake- holders are approaching philanthropy and giving from different perspectives.
We will explore how charities and social impact agencies can communicate their intentions, purpose, and impact clearly so that donors and partners will want to drive meaningful change together.

PANEL 1
Donor Engagement: Forging Stronger Partnerships
Exploring communications from a donors’ perspective – what corporates and philanthropists look out for in their giving journey and decision-making.
Part of the overall discussion on “Communicating Impact”, the panel will invite our audience to consider the evolution of stakeholder engagement in the social impact sector.
As philanthropy grows, it is imperative for the social service sector to be able to discern what various players seek in a partnership.
We hope to explore the different motivations and expectations of Corporates, Grantmakers and Philanthropists, and how charities and nonprofits can maximise the potential of these partnerships

Breakout Session 1
HOW TO BUILD EVIDENCE FOR EFFECTIVE PROGRAMMES

When we think about programmes that aim for large-scale community engagement, we often find it hard to quantify impact beyond the mere number of people reached.
Leveraging behavioural insights and robust evaluation, nonprofits can mobilise communities more effectively and track impact indicators such as the change in help-seeking behaviour.
Not only does this use of data enable non-profits to capture the impact of their work more accurately – thereby building an evidence base that can be used to encourage donor contributions – but it also facilitates the enhancement and iteration of programme implementation.

TELLING STORIES WITH DATA

In this talk, Kontinentalist, an award-winning data storytelling studio based in Singapore, will demonstrate how they collaborate with community partners like NGOs and community groups to create data stories in equitable and participatory ways.
They will do a deep dive into two of their major stories:
“A Woman’s World: Creating Spaces for Joy, Leisure, and Resistance in South and Southeast Asia” which they did in collaboration with Khabar Lahariya, India’s only women-run ethical and independent rural news network, as well as 12 other partner organisations across the region
“Abandoned at Sea: The Desperate Journeys of Rohingya Refugees” which they did in collaboration with UNHCR, recently winning “Gold” in the Humanitarian category for the 2022 Information Is Beautiful Awards
Using these two stories as a launching pad, they will explain how they used innovative storytelling techniques to visualise and tell stories with both qualitative and quantitative data from these community partners.
Through these case studies, participants will learn how to curate their own datasets, as well as pick different storytelling techniques to communicate their respective social causes in a powerful and impactful way.
