“We hope more people will move forward to develop a Pay It Forward culture”
Arguably the worst hit community in the whole of Singapore, the migrant worker community has truly suffered a lot during this global pandemic. From having to be separated from their initial living areas, to being stigmatised by the community out of fear, overcoming the pandemic has not been easy. As such, our #SGStrong, Project Pay It Forward wanted to stand with them in solidarity by providing them with “WeCareKits”.

“We started this solely because the migrant worker community was so badly affected and the spread was so rapid. Hence, Pay It Forward has gathered members together with Character and Leadership Academy to carry out the above WeCareKit for 17,000 Migrants Workers project.”
Reaching out to 17,000 migrant workers, each WeCareKit contains basic self-care items such as toothbrushes and shampoo as well as snacks for them to enjoy. This proved to bring lots of encouragement to the workers because it happened during the circuit breaker period which severely limited their activities and caged them in their temporary living facilities. Their gesture, though simple, symbolises the promised support the community would provide the migrant workers to help them weather the storm.

“We were glad to have Singapore Strong Fund supporting our community project so that we could focus on the execution area. With that, we hope more people will move forward to develop a Pay It Forward culture and movement in creating a ripple effect for our community.”
We hope that Project Pay It Forward’s initiative will also encourage you to stand in solidarity with the migrant workers and help them weather the storm. Together, we are stronger than COVID-19.
