“Remember alone you can only do so much but together you can do even more.”
With the June holidays being brought forward, caregivers of school-going children now have the added stress of keeping these students preoccupied in a healthy way. Empathising with their stress, our #SGStrong grantee, Priscilla Ong, founder of Project Love Lunch has decided to help alleviate some of this caregiving stress.
“Children have always been able to go play at the void deck before this pandemic, so keeping them at home was our biggest worry. Since they were already so used to being outside, we decided to come up with something fun to ensure they stay engaged at home and not go downstairs to play.”
Having founded her team at Project Love Lunch, she utilises this manpower to put together and distribute craft kits for low-income families living in rental flats. Within each craft kit are several activities that are achievable for children either by themselves or with the help of an adult. As such, the team has also found a way to encourage bonding within the family. Furthermore, “Be Strong” kits that will also be delivered to these households which contain hygiene essentials that these families may have difficulty procuring.
“Don’t be afraid to step out. Who knows. your little dream can become a reality and will enrich the lives of those that you plan to reach out to. Remember alone you can only do so much but together you can do even more.”
We hope that Project Love Lunch’s project will inspire you to also reach out to a family in need. Be it to help alleviate their caregiver stress or to provide them with essential supplies a small act of kindness could go a long way. Together, we are stronger than COVID-19.
