“The community spirit resides in all of us. We all would have an idea of helping and contributing to the community at some time or another.
The global outbreak of the coronavirus is not merely a health issue. Instead of busily shuttling around on our commutes or meeting friends for meals, we were cooped up in our homes for weeks at a time. To say the least, this virus drastically changed the way we live, work and play in more ways than we could have imagined. This new reality nudged #SGStrong grantee Alvin Oon to spread some cheer and positivity in the best way he knows- music.
Alvin composed an original song that targeted the increasing anxiety, fears and worries within our community. As he had been actively producing music videos in recent years, he felt that he had the experience and was sufficiently equipped to take on the challenge to send a positive message out to the nation.
After an open invitation to the public for only 2 weeks, 180 Singaporeans sent in short clips of themselves hand signing a heart that was featured in the final music video. Fight the Virus not only uplifted the spirits of Singaporeans, it reminded many to love and care for those around them. Now that the video is live on Youtube, Alvin hopes the song will be able to continually bring positive impact to those struggling, regardless of where they live or their circumstances.
Alvins song exemplifies how one simple act of kindness can create ripples around the world. Firmly believing that the community spirit resides in all of us, he is thankful for the #SGStrong Funds support of his idea. The resources provided enabled him to make a difference, despite being a mere individual.
We hope that Alvins heart to serve and contribute to our community will inspire you to spread positivity during these difficult times. Together, we are stronger than COVID-19.
