Community

The current climate of fear and uncertainty brought about by global contagion has also seen a corresponding flood of volunteerism and community care. Many organisations and individuals have come forward to offer generous amounts of help despite the many risks involved. In order to support these Non-Government Organisations (NGO), Voluntary Welfare Organisations and medical institutions, #SGStrong Grantee Jerry Lim and Jonathan Tan developed a website, Contribute.sg.

“The most rewarding experience so far is just being able to see the smiles of the elderly. The gratitude that they have for all the community support is just heartwarming.”

They hope the website can be used as a contact point for organisations who are in need of masks, and as a platform for the public to donate masks for those who need it more: low-income families and frontline workers who cannot procure their own masks during this period. To date, they have collected and distributed over 1,300 masks, but their goal is to expand their reach moving forward.

“Singapore is strongest in unity. We can definitely overcome this crisis. As long as we stay together and united, not only can we overcome COVID-19, we definitely will come out stronger than we ever have.”

We hope that Jerry’s project will encourage you to support local organisations and ground-up initiatives who are doing all they can to help fight the coronavirus. Together, we are stronger than COVID-19.
