In our current reality, our healthcare workers have been racing against time to slow the spread of the coronavirus. As a result, many have not even had enough time to get their own lunch, let alone the fear of infecting others as they are inevitably at a much higher risk of contracting the virus. This is why #SGStrong recipient Cheah Kuan Yuen decided that he will instead deliver lunch to the healthcare workers.
“It was saddening to read about how an ambulance driver was turned away by a stall owner when he went to buy lunch, or uniformed nurses were shunned in the MRT. They have been working all day to contain the disease. Therefore, this initiative has lightened some of their travel time and hope to give them some rest time, cheer and support while enjoying the foods.”
Reaching 50 frontline healthcare workers at Sengkang Hospital, Kuan Yuen delivered lunch to them at least three times a week. This simple gesture brought the sometimes distraught healthcare workers comfort in knowing that they were appreciated and had support from the community.

“It’s made my day by seeing the healthcare personnel from Sengkang Hospital eating well so as to better fight the COVID-19 to keep our community safe. This project gave meaningful appreciation to our healthcare personnel – the unsung and silent heroes. It’s was a great opportunity to assist in the efforts to fight this pandemic and there were a lot of great interactions with people that were willing to step forward.”
Kuan Yuen has shown us that help can be as simple as providing food, and we hope that his project will inspire you to lend a helping hand to those in need during this critical time. Together, we are stronger than COVID-19.
