With the outbreak of the coronavirus, many volunteers have seen a drop in their numbers as more people opt to stay home. As a result, many charities have difficulties packing and distributing necessities, such as meals to vulnerable elderly. Determined to compensate for the gap in manpower, our #SGStrong grantee Amanda Fu and her team have decided to pack and deliver care packages and food rations to the elderly living in the Lengkok Bahru rental flats.

“We realised that the households in rental flats have had their livelihood be affected by the situation. We don’t see it but they’re often the most affected. Some struggle with daily expenses so buying more at once wasn’t an option.”
Hence, Amanda and her team have partnered with Beyond Social Services so that they can better understand their targeted demographic and customise their care packages and food rations to better suit the needs of each beneficiary. Each care package will consist of medical supplies such as masks and hand sanitisers; things that the low-income families would have trouble procuring during this period. They also went door-to-door to share tips on personal hygiene and hand-washing techniques.

“No matter big or small, it’s about the little actions that address the needs of our community. Little by little we can support fellow Singaporeans in times of need. Roadblocks are inevitable, but partners like SG Strong Fund will be there to support you.”
We hope that Amanda and her team have inspired you to look after the people in your community as well because together, we are stronger than COVID-19.
