We Should All Work Together To Fight COVID And That Also Means Supporting One Another. Some Have Lost Their Jobs. Others Have Lost Their Lives. It Is A Worldwide Battle So Lets Stand Strong Together
Siti currently fights against Covid-19 as a frontline nurse. Despite being at higher risk for Covid-19, she is committed that it is her part to play as a nurse to protect others in a time of crisis. Just like how each Singaporean has a part to play to fight against Covid-19 and support one another to keep one another safe.
1) Why have you chosen to become a nurse? What inspired you to choose this career? I graduated in nursing but my first official job was a flight stewardess. After I finished my contract with the airline, I decided to work as a nurse. The thrills and daily challenges in nursing are things I looked forward to. But most importantly to nurse someone to full recovery and to just be their friend satisfies me. 2) You and your ward had to be COVID-ready. Did it not scare you to think about the dangers? If yes, why did you continue to pursue this? If no, why not? It didnt scare me at all, I was thinking to myself why wouldnt I? It was an opportunity I did not want to miss. As a local nurse, I have to play my part to protect our nation especially when our foreign nurses are here working tirelessly to care for Singaporeans despite worrying about family back in their country and not knowing when will they be able to see them again. Plus we nurses signed up for this and took an oath to protect the country. 3) How do you feel about public discrimination towards frontline healthcare workers because they fear the spread of the disease? How have you coped with it? It is tiring having to battle COVID day in and day out at work. When work ends after a long day, it is disheartening to be met with discrimination. I would like to assure the public that we have a very strict protocol for infection control. We often wash and sanitise our hands so frequently that some of our hands are peeled dry but still we carry on. 4) What message do you have to say to Singaporeans? We should all work together to fight COVID and that also means supporting one another. Some have lost their jobs. Others have lost their lives. It is a worldwide battle so let’s stand strong together. We work hard to keep everyone safe and have sacrificed much so that all Singaporeans need to do is to follow the protocol and stay safe.
