Invited to speak at the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Philanthropy for Better Cities Forum
Learn more
In recognition of our commitment to impactful philanthropy, The Majurity Trust participated in the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Philanthropy for Better Cities Forum, where over 1600 delegates from various countries gathered to discuss philanthropy’s role in social change.
CEO Martin Tan spoke on a panel addressing youth mental health, emphasising the shared global challenges cities face in supporting their youth amidst the rapid rise of technology and the decline in personal connections. Additionally, we took part in the inaugural Foundations Circle by the newly formed Institute of Philanthropy, where over 60 participants from 50 foundations engaged in constructive ideation. This event fostered the beginnings of East-West collaboration and identified 25 opportunity areas for philanthropic efforts.

The people we connect with
Collaborated with EMpower to organise 2 cross-learning opportunities for donors and grantee partners
Hosted a learning session in collaboration with EMpower
The Majurity Trust worked with EMpower – The Emerging Markets Foundation to co-organise a workshop for 25 grantee partners working in the children and youth spaces to learn from EMpower’s 20+ years of experience in investing in young people as agents of change around the world.
Helmed by the VP of Impact and Influence at EMpower, Nisha Dhawan, participants learned about how they can work towards making long-term systems change in the fields they work in while creating more opportunities for youths themselves to be involved in designing and engaging in programmes.
Convened the Collective Roundtable: Impact Brunch - The Majurity Trust x EMpower Foundation
The Majurity Trust worked with EMpower – The Emerging Markets Foundation to organise an engagement and cross-learning opportunity for foundations, family offices, corporate foundations and individual philanthropists in Singapore to discuss strategic philanthropy trends.
EMpower CEO Cynthia Steele shared more about EMpower’s approach to creating sustained, long-term change in the 15 markets they work in. We learned about EMpower’s 10 year grant promise, how they moved programmatic grants to more multi-year, flexible, organisational-focused funding, and different strategies for funders to collaborate meaningfully.

The people we connect with
Exclusive learning session with Cormac Russell to unpack Asset-Based Community Development for our grantee partners and partners
Learn more
The Majurity Trust hosted Cormac Russell, internationally renowned thought leader in asset-based community development and Founding Director of Nurture Development at an insightful breakfast chat together with about 30 of The Majurity Trust’s grantee partners and some of our partners.
Together, we dived into the world of community development – gaining insights into building community around the world, reflecting and examining what it means to build communities and how we might apply these learnings into our work here.

The Messy Truths Podcast
We also featured Cormac Russell on our podcast The Messy Truths, where he discussed the transition from focusing on what’s wrong to what’s strong in our communities, offering a unique perspective on how community members can be empowered to drive their own change.

The people we connect with
Convened a webinar on Recyclable Grants with Social Ventures Hong Kong
Learn more
Conducted an online webinar with Social Ventures Hong Kong discussing the design and outcomes of the recyclable funding models that each organisation piloted during the Covid-19 pandemic (The Majurity Trust’s Maybank Momentum Grant).
The webinar was an opportunity for The Majurity Trust to engage other funders in Singapore and the region on how to push the boundaries of philanthropy by experimenting with funding innovation, and how funders can build the capabilities of the organisations that they fund, to build financially strong nonprofit organisations and charities.

The people we connect with
Honoured to be invited for both Withers Worldwide Family Office Summit and ACI World Congress
Withers Worldwide Family Office Summit
The Majurity Trust CEO Martin Tan took to the stage to share about Majurity’s work in Singapore to all participants at the Withers Worldwide Global Conference entitled “Family Businesses, Family Offices and Family Foundations as Forces of Good.
This edition of the conference covered recent developments in Singapore’s charity regime, as well as trends in philanthropic giving and investments.
Our team also anchored a booth which provided an additional opportunity to engage more deeply with interested representatives from family offices to learn about potential giving opportunities through The Majurity Trust.
ACI World Congress
Our team had a wonderful opportunity to speak to a range of attending organisations about the work that Majurity does in philanthropic giving in Singapore at the ACI World Congress 2023.
This ACI World Congress is the preeminent financial markets association conference held in different countries each year.

The people we connect with
Invited to participate in the Best of Bloomberg Day Event
Learn more
The Majurity Trust was one of 20 nonprofit partners invited by Bloomberg to set up a booth and share our work at their Best of Bloomberg Day, an open house for their employees to learn more about the work of partners that Bloomberg supports.
THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Forged a closer partnership with our existing donors and built relationships with new ones
When donors choose to give to TMT, we want them to know that we aim to be the best stewards of their resources.
Learn more
We built our first full-time Advancement team in 2023, raising a record $12M. 158 new donors came on board and 36 existing donors equalled or increased their giving. These key metrics are encouraging and show us that we are on the right track.
At The Majurity Trust, we believe that fundraising is not just about hitting targets. By providing donors a positive and impactful giving experience, where they are able to understand issues better and get to know our grantee partners, we can grow the giving pie.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Continuing relationship with Community Foundation of Singapore
Learn more
The Majurity Trust secured $500,000 in funding from Community Foundation of Singapore towards the Movements For Health Fund, to start the M4H@Community Initiative.
The M4H@Community Initiative is part of the larger Movements For Health Fund by the Tote Board and MOHT, which aims to seed emerging initiatives by community agencies seeking to grow organic social movements to adopt and advocate for healthier lifestyles leading to better health outcomes.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Launched SGStrong Fellowship in partnership with GIC
Learn more
The first-of-its-kind in the social sector in Singapore, the SG Strong Fellowship is a 12-month programme in partnership with GIC that aims to nurture a collaborative community of 15 groundup leaders that is equipped, supported and connected.
As community needs shift post-pandemic, and more philanthropic organisations step in to provide project funding for groundup initiatives, The Majurity Trust is evolving our covid response SG Strong Fund to build leadership capacity in the groundup sector through this SG Strong Fellowship. The launch was announced by Minister Masagos Zulkifli at The Majurity Conversations.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Hosted the BlueStar* Town Hall and 4 other combined town halls to galvanise and encourage sector sharings.
Learn more
The Philanthropy team at The Majurity Trust organised a Town Hall for all active grantee partners supported by our Musim Mas BlueStar* fund.
This is an intentional space for partners in the youth mental health space to meet and learn from one another. Discussions were geared towards action, problem-solving and collaboration across the sector.
Insights gleaned from the Town Hall have added depth to The Majurity Trust’s intentionality in bringing more of the sector together.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Launch of 4ST Partnership Fund with NCSS
Learn more
The 4ST Partnership Fund was launched on 27 April 2023 with the aim of mobilising the sector to develop solutions that promote innovation, collaboration and empowerment, with the end outcome of improving the quality of life of service users – including Families, Children and Youth, Persons with Mental Health Conditions and Caregivers. As part of the strategic collaboration, The Majurity Trust is co-administering the 4ST Partnership Fund with NCSS.
The partnership between NCSS and TMT has come a long way since early discussions of designing the NCSS 4STPF in late 2022, and its operationalisation of 2 grant calls in 2023 (Year 1 of this partnership), which has received 69 applications in total, with 12 Seed Projects and 4 Grow Projects funded to date.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Celebrating Grantee Partners at the inaugural Majurity Marathon
Learn more
Themed “Going the distance for tomorrow”, The Majurity Marathon is the first of an annual engagement with our community of grantee partners to celebrate their achievements and provide an opportunity to foster stronger relationship between these organisations.
The event acknowledged and celebrated the hard work of our grantee partners working on the ground to meet unseen needs all year round.
More importantly, it encapsulates our commitment that we are here to journey with them for the long haul.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Launched Within Studios to amplify the impact of nonprofits
Learn more
Many charities and nonprofits, especially younger startups with limited access to resources, often struggle to effectively communicate their impact and grow their brand and reach to donors and partners.
Within Studios was set up to help close up the communications gap for these organisations.

Designed as a Communications Design Agency, Within Studios was launched to better support these organisations to amplify the good they do.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Launch of The Majurity Trust Leadership Council
Learn more
In 2023, we started our Leadership Council with 6 inaugural members. Our Leadership Council members are donors who provide strategic advisory to The Majurity Trust, whose insights and opinions help us shape our thinking and aspirations for the way forward for TMT.
Danny Yong & Lyn Chan
Hsieh Fu Hua
Chan Chia Lin
Anthonia Hui & Leonardo Drago
Alvin Lim
Audrey Lim & Teo Kok Woon
At our Annual Leadership Council Meeting on July 10th, President Tharman and Ms Jane Ittogi joined us for a closed door engagement to discuss how we can build stronger foundations as a leading philanthropic organisation here. One key takeaway was the need to grow the giving pie by growing more local philanthropists who have the opportunity to understand the needs and struggles of vulnerable people and communities in Singapore.
Leadership Council members are donors who support The Majurity Trust’s operating costs with an annual gift of $100,000 and above, which covers critical manpower and overhead expenditure to allow us to do philanthropy differently.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Engaging donors through our annual Collective Roundtable engagements
Learn more
Philanthropy is best done together. Collective Roundtable engagements provide an opportunity for us to bring our donors and other funders in the ecosystem together. These networking opportunities provide a platform for us to dive into specific issues and discuss how we can collectively address unseen needs in the communities we live in.
In 2023, we were glad to convene 2 roundtables, starting with a session on Impact Measurement with specific case studies on the youth mental health landscape and a collaborative session on how youths can play a changemaking role in partnership with EMpower.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Bringing together groundup groups at the annual Groundup Day
Learn more
Hosted by The Majurity Trust for the second year running, Groundup day was a platform that brought together leaders and volunteers from community initiatives all across Singapore to come together and celebrate their achievements and efforts in the groundup space.
This year’s theme focused on the topic of Wellness, as groundup leaders and volunteers descended upon Peace Centre and took part in various activities that encouraged the 7 types of rest.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WE FORM
Building relationships with our grantee partners that go beyond the transactional: Grantee Partner Survey (GPS)
Learn more
At The Majurity Trust, we deeply value our grantee partners and strive to build relationships that transcend mere transactions. We created the Grantee Partner Survey (GPS) to understand how we can improve our grantmaking to enhance grantee partners’ experience.
Our 2023 survey results revealed that the grantmaking experience with TMT has improved in all areas compared to previous years. Grantee partners find our grantmaking process and reporting requirements intuitive and seamless. They also appreciate the team’s flexibility in funding, and the professionalism and curiosity of our fund managers, who are dedicated to improving the organisations we work with.
On average, grantee partners received at least two forms of non-monetary assistance from TMT. Nevertheless, they have also expressed a desire for continued and greater support in the same areas e.g., networking sessions, and capability building.
THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT

THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT
Tackling the issues grant applicants face with a streamlined grant management system. A people-first approach.
Learn more
Recognising that some nonprofits may have limited resources and experience in applying for grants, we built a grant application platform that streamlines the process to make applying for and maintaining grants efficient, to simplify the process for newer charities, thus reducing the barriers to applying for grants.
Our philanthropy team also conducts grant info-sessions and follow up calls to engage with prospective applicants.

THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT
Addressing inequitable learning and development opportunities for children from disadvantaged backgrounds
Learn more
While Singapore continues to emerge as a top performing education system globally, data shows a persistent achievement gap for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
With the Wonder Arc Fund, we will work with donors and partners to ensure that learning possibilities are available to all children equitably by removing the odds stacked against them.
THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT
Spotlighting the hidden issue of Hikikomori – a severe form of social reclusion affecting youths and their families here
Learn more
Launched our annual year-end campaign: Hikikomori video
HIkikomori is a severe form of social withdrawal where individuals isolate themselves for prolonged periods of more than three months. Since the pandemic, there are increasing incidences of youths unable to go to school or work for months or years.
There are currently no national statistics on this phenomenon in Singapore. A grantee partner of The Majurity Trust, Impart has been supporting and journeying closely with youths facing adversity many of whom have been given up on.
As part of The Majurity Trust’s efforts and committment to spotlight the unseen issue of youths struggling with mental health, The Majurity Trust worked with Impart to launch a year-end campaign offering a glimpse into a mother’s story of caring for her socially reclusive son.
Produced by Within Studios by Majurity in partnership with Impart.

THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT
Raising awareness on the unseen challenges that persons living with dementia and their families face with local film: Lady!
Learn more
The Majurity Trust’s Silver Is Gold Fund supported the private film screening of the “Lady!” documentary, a film that highlighted the unseen struggles of a caregiver’s journey supporting her husband with young onset dementia (YOD) while being a mother to her two young children.
The event brought 250 of our donors, community partners, and sector professionals and experts together, who shared their reflections of the film followed by a panel discussion which offered further insights through the lens of fellow caregivers and sector professionals in the dementia field. The screening resulted in renewed conviction and belief that there is hope in building an inclusive Singaporean society where persons living with dementia and their caregivers can live well and thrive.
THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT
Bringing to light the longer-term needs of vulnerable groups in Singapore and the nonprofits that provide a “trampoline” for them to bounce back

THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT
Alleviating the issue of burnout for 500 individuals serving in the nonprofit space including our grantee partners and donors
Learn more
The Majurity Trust launched a two-year strategic partnership with Intellect offering mental wellbeing support to grantee partners and donors from the The Majurity Trust network. This collaboration will provide access to professional behavioural health coaches, licensed psychologists and self-guided support.
Changemaking is hard work and it will only get harder as social issues become more complex. Everyday our grantee partners work tirelessly on the ground to uplift and support vulnerable communities in need.
Journeying closely with them over the last few years, we’ve witnessed how the work can take a toll on their own mental wellbeing.
Many are groundups, nonprofit startups and charities that don’t yet operate at a scale where they are able to set aside resources for employee wellbeing. We envision that this would provide the needed support for our partners to thrive and continue doing the good work that they do.

THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT
Brightening Lives 2023 to spotlight unseen needs in community
Learn more
Brightening Lives 2023 is a joint community engagement initiative by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown, and Community Partner, The Majurity Trust, to create greater awareness on unmet social needs, and encourage the community to step up and brighten the lives of those who struggle.

THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT
Supporting over 150 resource strapped groundup groups tackling community needs during COVID-19.
Learn more
In recognition of our efforts through the SGStrong fund, The Majurity Trust was awarded the COVID-19 Resilience Certificate at the MCCY Family National Awards (COVID-19) Investiture in recognition of our work with the SG Strong Fund.
The COVID-19 Resilience Certificate recognises the substantive contributions of those who participated directly in Singapore’s fight against COVID-19. At the pandemic’s peak in 2020, SGStrong was born with the support of 10 donors, who, within a mere 2.5 weeks, collectively contributed over $550K.
Their generosity laid the foundation for an initiative that demonstrated how impact can be amplified when communities come together. In 5 months, we stood shoulder to shoulder with over 150 incredible groundup groups.
Many have flourished, and we continue to journey with them to scale and succeed. What began as a covid-response fund has today evolved into Singapore’s first Groundup Leader Fellowship #SGStrongfellowship supported by GIC. The fellowship now develops outstanding community leaders to further their impact on the ground.
THE CHALLENGES WE CONFRONT
The Majurity Learning Session Series: Enabling young leaders in our grantee partner network to build strong foundations needed for the long-term sustainability of their organisation
The Majurity Learning Session #1: Leadership & Strategy
Demystifying the idea of leadership, this session primed social sector leaders with the confidence to lead their team and organisation successfully.
The Majurity Trust collaborated with talenTtrust to host Sunita Kaur, Senior Vice President of APAC at Twitch in an exclusive learning session with 25 of our grantee partners.
Drawing from her personal leadership journey, Sunita equipped our grantee partners with knowledge on what it takes to lead top teams at global tech firms and how it is really not so different from leading a purpose driven organisation.
The Majurity Learning Session #2: Board & Governance
Managing and engaging the Board can be daunting for leaders running nonprofits, especially for newer agencies.
In line with our goal to better equip our grantee partners, The Majurity Trust together with talenTtrust hosted 20 of our grantee partners for an exclusive learning session anchored by the CEO/Co-chair pair of Ivy Tse and Bill Padfield from Halogen Foundation where we demystifyed and untangled the issues in Board-Management relationships.
The Majurity Learning Session #3: Financial Sustainability
In partnership with Bloomberg and talenTtrust to strengthen capabilities of our grantee partners, The Majurity Trust hosted Angela Tan from ART:DIS and Carisa Mann from Growth Squad Consulting to shared their knowledge and insights around financial sustainability with about 20 grantee partners of The Majurity Trust.
Hosted the Learning Session #4: Brand Perception
In partnership with talenTtrust, The Majurity Trust hosted Evonne Chung, who took about 20 grantee partners on a branding journey that touched on the principles and frameworks to effective branding.
She spoke from her experience working with multinational brands and charities, where she has helped advise organisations better position themselves to their clients, beneficiaries, donors, and other relevant stakeholders.
Provided Capability Building for Grantee Partners: 2-day Masterclass on Organisational Strategy and impact measurement
These are a part of a series of Masterclasses designed through the duration of the grant cycle, to equip grantee partners with the knowledge and resources and encourage further dialogue and ideas for collaboration.

THE EXPERIENCES WE CREATE
THE EXPERIENCES WE CREATE
Played golf, did good at the first-ever Majurity Charity Invitational. Teams competed and raised funds for the issues of youth mental health, dementia and migrant workers.
Learn more
The Majurity Charity Invitational is a first-of-its-kind charity golf tournament series where teams compete in 3 tournament legs themed according to unseen gaps.
Golfers learned more about social causes through meeting with various grantee partners and on-course challenges.
The Majurity Trust raised $418,000 in total and the overall Champion team, Leonardo Drago & Anthonia Hui, received $20,000 to donate to their grantee partner of choice, SanCare Asia.
Golfers raised funds for the Scaffold Fund to support Healthserve in their work empowering migrant workers, the Silver is Gold Fund to support Vintage Radio in their work reaching out to seniors in the community and the BlueStar* Fund to support Resilience Collective in their work uplifting youths in their mental health journey.
THE EXPERIENCES WE CREATE
Convened The Majurity Conversations 2023 to explore how charities and social impact agencies can communicate their intentions, purpose, and impact clearly to drive meaningful change.
Learn more
Themed “Communicating Impact”, The Majurity Conversations (TMC) 2023 brought over 200 social impact leaders together to explore ways to effectively communicate in a challenging and ever-evolving environment where resources are tight, and stakeholders are approaching philanthropy and giving from different perspectives.
Featuring multi-award winning international journalist, Arwa Damon as keynote speaker, the event also included insightful panel discussions highlighting key corporate donors and seasoned media professionals, shedding critical insights and the need for charities and nonprofits to pursue clear and effective communication.
THE EXPERIENCES WE CREATE
Launch of The Majurity Exploratory Trail: Communities on the Margins
Learn more
Designed exclusively for donors, corporates and family offices, this experiential programme offers insights from our grantee charities with firsthand experiences of Singapore’s social challenges.
The first trail saw us collaborating with Impart, NewLifeStories.com and KampungKakis to explore the streets of Beach Road, immersing in real and raw stories that delved into the challenges faced by at-risk youth, isolated seniors, and children from incarcerated families.
THE FUTURE WE HELP REALISE
THE FUTURE WE HELP REALISE
The Majurity Night 2023 – Envisioning a tomorrow in Singapore where everyone feels they belong, stigma and discrimination is eradicated, the strength of our communities are leveraged and we come together to help more of us achieve our dreams.
Learn more
Themed Tomorrowland, The Majurity Trust hosted our annual The Majurity Night 2023 bringing together 200 dreamers and doers made up of Singapore’s leading philanthropists, corporates, and nonprofit charities to connect.
The evening’s highlight was an interactive exhibition where donors and partners connected with 16 of our grantee partners to learn about their work, challenges and aspirations in building stronger, more connected communities.

THE FUTURE WE HELP REALISE
Invitation to speak at Ministry of Finance’s Advance: Better synergy between our work on the ground with grantee partners and philanthropists, along with government efforts to build a stronger society
Learn more
Recognising the depth of The Majurity Trust’s experience with guiding funding towards under-served areas and evaluating performance, and driving outcomes in the social sector, The Majurity Trust CEO Martin Tan was invited to share about our work and impact at MOF’s advance for 2023.
The annual strategic planning event was attended by close to 90 key individuals, comprising the senior management of the Ministry (including our Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Secretaries), our departments (Accountant-General’s Department, Singapore Customs and VITAL – our shared services centre), and statutory boards (ACRA, IRAS, Tote Board).

THE FUTURE WE HELP REALISE
Raising the standards of impact evaluation and assessment in the nonprofit sector
Learn more
Recognising the diverse Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning needs of our grantee partners, TMT’s Insights & Strategy (I&S) team piloted the Majurity Research and Evaluation Clinics.
The clinics provided grantee partners with a platform to consult our I&S team about any questions they may have around research, evaluation, and impact assessment, personalised to their needs.

THE FUTURE WE HELP REALISE
Inviting donors to expect more heart, intentionality, insights, integration and accountability from their philanthropic journey
Learn more
Because when doing good, philanthropists should expect more. More than just knowing where the funds go, we challenged donors to ask us questions that matter.
1. Are we staying accountable to our donors with efficient capital deployment and conducting rigorous due diligence?
2. Are we providing insights that drive giving decisions, informed by both research and from the ground?
3. Are we integrating as an ecosystem to address the increasingly wicked, complex and multifaceted social problems we face today?
4. Are we intentional in adding value to people across our entire value chain?
5. Most importantly, do we stay true to adopting a human approach to philanthropy?
